We first years are in the second week of the second half of the core......and I can already tell that this half is no joke! Break seems like a very distant memory at this point.

As mentioned in an earlier post, this half we are taking Statistics (or Sadistics as Professor Joe Thomas, former Dean of the business school endearingly callls it), Finance and Strategy. A new twist on class that keeps things errr..... lively is that all three professors utilize cold calling in class. This is a departure from the first half of the semester and I have mixed feelings about it.

In addition to preparing for the unexpected class shoutout I am also working as an admissions ambassador this quarter. During a break between class one day a week I am leading an info session and tour with prospective students who have come to check out Johnson. Today was the second such session and it is nice to be able to provide information and input into the Johnson experience and meet prospective students. So.....if you're thinking of making the trek to Ithaca for a visit to Sage - come on a Monday!!!

This past weekend I headed to Boston for a diversity conference calling Reaching Out with about 40 other Johnson students. On Friday, there was a career expo and I had the opportunity to speak with many different companies and recruiters. In addition to the recruiting aspect, my friends and I had a great time getting out of Ithaca and road tripping to Boston. We attended some fun parties and dinners and met a lot of great people.

Next week is Johnson's annual Battle of the Brands Competition. My team is comprised of 4 fellow first years and we are marketing men's and Lady's Speed Stick as sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive. I am really excited about this competition and my team and I are currently working on our marketing campaign and strategy. There are 4 other teams who have all been assigned a product to market at next week's Sage Social Marketplace. The Johnson community comes out and each individual is given 12 tickets to use to "buy" the various products being sold. We are working on our pricing strategy now and have 250 units to sell which Colgate-Palmolive has provided as sponsor. I've heard things get pretty rowdy and competitive leading up to the competition and I can't wait to participate and hopefully win some Amex gift cards - who is sponsoring the competition.

A bunch of fellow students from the Marketing Association are also headed to NYC on Friday for a trek to check out Colgate's offices and operations (totally unrelated to the competition). Before that, we have our second finance quiz, a breakfast and corporate briefing with American Express and our first core team deliverable for Strategy class.

Things are sure to be busy between now and finals (definitely looking forward to the month long break!) but close to the top of my agenda is also figuring out a hilarious Halloween costume for Saturday's annual Johnson Halloween party. Can't wait to report back!
