Just took home first place at the 2012 J&J UNC Marketing Case Competition! Glad all of our hard work finally paid-off!
Since receiving the case on Monday afternoon, we have been working nonstop to bring home the trophy. Late nights and frozen dinners were the norm while we tried to juggle this case on top of our normal schedule of classes and club meetings.
The pressure was on too. For those keeping score, first-year Johnson students are now 3 for 3 when competing in external case competitions – a source of pride around Sage Hall. We definitely did not want to break that streak.
The competition itself was quite the experience. We flew down to UNC on Friday afternoon to be there in time for a networking reception. Here we met the members of the teams we would be competing against (Kellogg, Ross, Fuqua, Kenan-Flagler). It was great to compare experiences and get to know one another. The next morning, we took a shuttle from the hotel to the business school and made our presentations. Judges were actual J&J executives and UNC faculty. Each team presented for 30 minutes followed by approximately 15 minutes of questions.
Though there were times during the case prep when I nearly lost my mind, I am definitely glad it all came together in the end. I would highly recommend the experience to any prospective students regardless of the school they end up choosing. Shout out to my teammates Yoni Klein, Matt Russo and Stephanie Hsi. Thanks to J&J and the marketing club at UNC for putting this event together – and a special thanks to our own marketing association and student council for covering our travel and lodging expenses!
Below is our winning team, and then a pic of all the teams involved.
