No, this isn't about Admission Round 2 acceptances, though I've received a few excited emails about interview invites and campus visits. I love meeting prospective students that are that much closer to being the new class next year. I interviewed before I submitted my application, but I received my acceptance in February last year and I remember how happy I was, so I can relate to them.
So the round 2 is referring to my second semester here at Johnson. As mentioned earlier, I spent winter break in India, and then a few days at home. India was an amazing experience. I worked on a project for a high end travel agency with a student at K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management. (I couldn't have asked for a better partner - thanks for everything, Kaustav!) On my break between Christmas and New Year's, three of my classmates and I visited Delhi , and actually met the families of two other Johnson classmates. We went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, and then to Jodhpur and Udaipur. We rounded out the trek with several company visits in Pune and Bangalore. Afterwards, I came back to the worst jetlag of my life :)
I started the Strategic Marketing Immersion last Monday. What a week! Right away we had cases and team presentations for class and we received our semester long projects. This week we start the rest of our classes. I am taking Operations, the Immersion class, Marketing Research and the infamous Management Cases and Problem Solving class. That class in particular teaches you how to break down cases and think about solutions to the issues brought forth in the cases. You learn not only how to make good recommendations but also how to best convey the message to your audience appropriately as well as defend and support your stances. I know it will be a lot of work but I'm really looking forward to the challenge!
This semester also represents when I take on my role as VP of Education for the Latino Business Students Association and start planning the Diversity Symposium that takes place in the fall. Also, I found out before the break that I am in the inaugural class of the Emerging Markets Institute's Emerging Markets Fellows! I'm so excited about the opportunity to work with a subset of my classmates dedicated to working in/working with emerging markets. We also have a new dean! Professor Dutta and his wife, a professor of strategy, are very dedicated to these areas of the world, and I can't wait to see how the rest of my time at Johnson is once they come on board.
Excitement all around! Interviewing is also a stressful time for the majority of my classmates as it is going on RIGHT NOW. I was fortunate enough to receive and accept an internship offer earlier in the year through the Consortium Orientation Program, so I am helping out classmates where I can with mock interviews.
I'll keep you posted with my progress on Peck decks, process flows, and market research for my semester long projects.
