Frank shares his thoughts on extending unemployment insurance and Bush-era tax cuts with MSNBC host

On her Nov. 30 broadcast, Rachel Maddow celebrated the stance of Johnson's Bob Frank on issues such as the need to extend unemployment benefits insurance and end Bush-era tax cuts on the very wealthy.

The full segment is available on the Rachel Maddow show MSNBC Web site.

Segment brief:
In a discussion about jobs and how to create them for Americans, Maddow cited the number one most effective way to create jobs listed by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) being "aid to the unemployed."

She then shared the view of Arizona Republican Congressman John Shadegg, who suggests that that extending unemployment benefits will not, in itself, boost the economy for reasons such as the fact that the unemployed are not job creators.

Maddow then invited Johnson's Robert (Bob) Frank to her show via satellite.

Frank disagreed with Shadegg's notion saying his was a "a bewilderingly strange position" and concurred with the CBO's finding.  Frank said that that "the reason there aren't enough jobs is that people aren't spending enough."  Because almost every dollar citizens receive through unemployment is pumped back into the system through spending, maintaining unemployment insurance is one sure way of keeping money moving through the economy, said Frank.
