Maureen O'Hara counsel plays critical role in identifying key factors that provided fertile ground for market "flash crash"

Johnson Professor of Finance and Management Maureen O'Hara continues to play an instrumental role as part of the Joint Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) CFTC-SEC Advisory Committee on Emerging Regulatory Issues which recently released its recommendations for the appropriate regulatory response to  last May’s flash crash.

The recommendations focus on ensuring the integrity of the markets and to maximize investor confidence in the aftermath of the many market disruptions over the past several years. The Committee identified volatility, co-location and direct access, as well as liquidity and the role of market makers as key issues.

O'Hara has been a part of the Committee since its inception in May when it examined the causes of the momentary crash which saw U.S. stock markets lose and largely regain approximately $1 trillion in value within 15 minutes.
