Special Libraries Association gives library the Center of Excellence Service Award

April 20, 2010 | Ithaca, NY | The Johnson Graduate School of Management Library has won the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Business and Finance Division's Centers of Excellence (COE) Award for Service. Initiated in 2001 and modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards, the COE Awards recognize quality and excellence in libraries and information centers. This highly prestigious acknowledgement places the Management Library alongside world class libraries of Ernst & Young, Microsoft, Nike, Tata Consultancy and Stanford University, among others.

"It is great to see the Johnson School's Management Library recognized for their tremendous accomplishments," said Mark Nelson, associate dean for academic affairs. "Management Library staff provide excellent service to students, faculty and staff, reliably and enthusiastically. They are a key part of the Johnson School's operations, and also contribute their expertise to the broader Cornell community. This award is richly deserved."

Judges said that their selection was based on the Management Library's ability to adapt to changing user needs and because of its focus on the customer. Judges also liked the Library's use of key performance indicators to measure the success of services and the iterative planning process that the Management Library uses to adjust these services.

"Our team is thrilled to have been recognized by our peers for proactively striving every day to enhance the ways in which we exceed our users' expectations," said Angela Horne, director of the Johnson School Management Library. "As our tagline states, we truly are 'proud to be your research partner'. This focus on our patrons is the key to our success."

The Centers of Excellence Award will be officially presented in June at the 2010 SLA Conference in New Orleans, LA.
