Park Fellow Alumni Profiles
Andrea Findley, MBA/MPA Class of 2009
The Park program has been an invaluable part of my MBA experience. The personal mastery curriculum pushed my awareness to a new level. While every student at Johnson has access to similar leadership development resources, as a Park Fellow I was encouraged to step out of my comfort zone, experiment with different leadership challenges, and seek feedback on my leadership style. It has not been an easy road-continually receiving feedback and finding the space to process that feedback is hard work-but it has been more than worth the effort. As a result I've further defined what is truly important to me as a professional and as a person, and I am much more aware of my strengths and challenges.
Findley was part of a team of students who developed and implemented BR Microcapital (BRM), a student-led organization at Johnson that supports underserved entrepreneurs in the local community. In partnership with Alternatives Federal Credit Union, BRM provides coaching and financial support to self-employed business owners who operate home-based or micro-businesses. BRM launched in January 2009 with a loan portfolio of $20,000 and is currently working with five local micro-entrepreneurs. The organization contributes to the Ithaca community in a meaningful way and at the same time offers new opportunities for students to develop their skills and take an active role in community development.
