On the research front, one of our grants yielded a Ph.D. dissertation which earned awards. Sean Martin, Ph.D. ’14, studied “Business and Behavioral Ethics in Developing Markets” with a grant from the Emerging Markets Institute. His resulting dissertation won Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business Excellence in Ethics Best Dissertation Proposal Award, and the Duke COLE Center of Leadership and Ethics Best Dissertation Proposal Award. The dissertation was additionally nominated for the Organization Science Best Dissertation Proposal Award, and further evolved into a manuscript which is being evaluated for publication by the Academy of Management Journal.
We graduated 18 students from our Emerging Markets Fellows Program. Graduates have opportunities lined up in the United States and abroad with firms such as McKinsey, Genentech, Wal-Mart, EY, Groupon, Bayer, and Bank of America. Graduation included a reception at my house for friends and family.
Looking forward into the summer months, we are planning an Emerging Market Roundtable event on August 21 in New York City, followed by a conference on Chinese global investment in October. We look forward to welcoming the students back on campus at summer’s end.
