Mr. Jian Liu holds a PhD degree in neuroscience. Before joining Johnson school for his MBA, Dr. Liu investigated visual information processing in the retina at the University of Pennsylvania and color vision of zebrafish at Harvard University. Dr. Liu also found and investigated a novel inhibitory receptor in the vertebrate retina. The finding has potential application in drug design.
Dr. Liu has always been passionate about bridging the gap between the bench side and the bed side. He co-founded the Philadelphia Science Forum, a non-profit scientific organization, and established a vibrant platform for nurturing scientific ideas and facilitating collaborations. During his time as a research neuroscientist at Harvard, Dr. Liu co-founded a startup focusing on providing professional scientific consulting service. He has helped more than a thousand clients design experiments, collect and analyze data, and publish findings.
Dr. Liu believes that an entrepreneur should always keep social responsibilities in mind. Dr. Liu is a member of China Red Cross. He organized a donation event at the University of Pennsylvania in responding to the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan, China.
In his spare time, Dr. Liu plays harmonica and enjoys photographing and driving. Dr. Liu likes writing computer programs. The scientific software he wrote has been downloaded by scientists all over the world. He is also a frequent blogger.
