Round 2 or Round 3?
If you are trying to decide if round 2 or 3 is the right time, here are some things to consider. Overall, we want you to submit when you are ready however; a few parts to the application may cause the momentum to slow down.
Here’s when to submit your application to Johnson, even if you don’t think it is complete:
1. Letter(s) of Recommendation – if one or more of your references have not completed our form; I would still recommend submitting. The timing for round 2 is different because of our winter break*. So, if you have recommenders struggling to complete the form, you can tell them their final deadline is January 3rd. This gives them a few more weeks and possibly some planned time to write a great letter on your behalf.
2. GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS – If you have never taken one or all the test scores necessary for your candidacy, but feel ready to submit, I highly recommend speaking with a Program Manager or member of the Admissions Committee. I commend those that select a school based on their own fit with culture, community and reputation before narrowing or broadening choices based just on your GMAT or GRE score, but you need to have scheduled a date when you are taking the exam or exams. If you are considering retaking any of these exams, again, please contact your Program Manager or member of the Admissions Committee. If you are not sure who to contact, please email email@example.com. This email account is checked daily by several staff members so I assure you your inquiry will not be lost. I emphasize this because of the above mentioned unique round 2 timing.
3. Essays – the essays should not be a deterrent. If you struggle with this part, remember we are only looking for you to answer the questions with thoughtfulness and honesty. It is a jumping point to expand on from an interview. The essays will not as a single part, result in not interviewing someone.
If you are still considering applying for round 2 versus round 3, do not hesitate to contact someone in the admissions office. We are happy to walk you through the timing of this round and help you decide if December 4th is the right round for you to submit.
Those applicants that have already applied in round 2, thank you! We look forward to reading your applications.
*We are closing the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid on December 23rd and 24th; Cornell University is closed on December 25th until January 1st. A few staff members will return to the office on January 2nd and 3rd, but I do not expect a full staff until January 6th.
