The Sustainable Global Enterprise (SGE) Immersion prepares Johnson students and selected Cornell graduate students from other disciplines who are interested in the business + sustainability domain.

Students who strive to become business leaders seeking competitive advantage through sustainable global strategies are well-suited for this immersion.

Under the direction of Mark Milstein and award-winning faculty members, this immersion was named a grand prize winner in the D. Alfred N. and Lynn Manos Page Prize for Sustainability Issues in Business Curricula. We provide students with breadth and depth of knowledge related to the broad impact social and environmental issues present to firms across numerous industries. Knowing that interest in sustainability is diverse, the SGE immersion curriculum has been designed with two required classes to allow for maximum flexibility, while maintaining a rigorous program.

Students Serve as Consultants

The SGE Practicum, the flagship class, is available only to SGE Immersion students. Throughout the semester, students work on multidisciplinary teams on company-sponsored projects that challenge them to solve real problems currently faced by companies. SGE students are expected to provide practical, operational solutions and require competency in all management areas, including economics, finance, marketing, accounting, and operations. Project sponsors range from multinational corporations, to non-governmental organizations, to startups.

Project focuses can include:

  • Sustainable technology commercialization strategies
  • Base of the Pyramid market analysis and feasibility studies
  • Sustainable enterprise strategic venture plans

SGE students pursue diverse career interests. Some seek careers related to sustainability immediately, while others pursue traditional MBA careers knowing sustainability frameworks will be called upon sometime throughout their careers. Recent SGE Immersion students secured MBA internship opportunities and full-time employment with prestigious organizations, such as:
