Investment Banking
In the Investment Banking Immersion, we create a learning environment that reaches beyond cases and coursework. It immerses aspiring bankers in unique opportunities and challenges them to dissect real transactions. It’s an apt account of the work students will complete in internships and upon graduation – and it builds their skills for success on Wall Street and beyond.
Under the direction of Drew Pascarella, a former Director in Citi’s Technology Investment Banking Group, the program simulates a real-world investment banking environment in the classroom and during a visit to Wall Street. In both cases, students are exposed to:
- recent M&A and capital-raising transactions
- modeling
- the process of pitching clients for new business
Johnson’s pillar of performance learning powers the program, and requires students to apply coursework teachings to real-world business transactions. Analyzing actual transactions and developing new business pitches for CEOs are just two of the many ways that our students apply the practices they learn.
Pitching a Current CEO
In 2012, students developed and presented pitches to the CEO of a well-known, privately-held food manufacturer. Among the impressive ideas presented by students were: proposals for acquisitions, an IPO, and various externally-financed organic expansion opportunities.
Access to Wall Street
Our focus on performance learning is also fulfilled through a “Week on Wall Street” immersion trip. During this highly-rated annual visit to New York City, students are hosted by bankers working for global bulge bracket banks, regional / specialty firms, and boutiques.
Students analyze recently completed M&A and capital-raising transactions and have the opportunity to learn directly from deal teams that executed them. And they gain an insider’s view to the daily life of bankers.
Upon completion of the immersion, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the investment banking industry, and a full suite of requisite technical skills that will set them on the path to success – and apart from their peers.
