Application Essentials
Selection
Applicants to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program represent a diverse group of accomplished managers and professionals. Individuals have unique strengths, and all of those strengths are considered in the admission decision.
The admission decision is based on our review of the following factors: your motivation to undertake a rigorous graduate business program; your organizational experience; your references; and your academic readiness. The Admissions Committee considers applications on a "rolling" basis until the class is filled, so you should submit your application as soon as possible.
Application Process
When you decide to apply to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program, you will be assigned an Admissions Advisor who will guide you through every step of the application process. First, your Admissions Advisor will offer a preliminary assessment of your qualifications. Next, he or she will suggest helpful ways to strengthen your application by reviewing your résumé and personal statement, with advice on approaching colleagues for references and on the interview process. You and your Advisor will work together to ensure that your application is as strong as possible before it is advanced to the Admissions Committee.
The specific parts of your application include the following materials and procedures:
Application form: Application forms can be completed online or downloaded from our website. If you prefer, your Admissions Advisor can mail these forms to you.
Personal statement: This should outline your current responsibilities and assignments, career accomplishments, reasons for applying to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program, and professional and personal goals and plans.
Résumé: A current résumé that includes lists of certificates, diplomas, and degrees; work experience; memberships in professional associations; and volunteer and community activities.
Two references: To support your application, we must receive two completed reference forms. Ideally, we would like one of these to be submitted by your immediate supervisor and the other submitted by a peer or colleague. The evaluation forms can be downloaded from our website. If you prefer, your Application Advisor can mail these forms to you. Please note that evaluators must send these forms directly to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program Admissions Committee. You should inform those whom you ask to submit reference forms that they may be contacted by a representative of the Admissions Committee to discuss their evaluations.
Official transcripts: A certified official transcript from each post-secondary institution you have attended must be sent by that institution directly to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program Admissions Committee. Please note that you must hold an undergraduate degree to apply for admission to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program. However, this requirement may be waived for exceptional candidates.
Academic readiness assessment: Applicants are normally required to complete the Cornell MBA Assessment Tool (CMAT). However, highly qualified applicants may be exempt. The CMAT is a short diagnostic exercise designed to allow both you and the Admissions Committee to assess your academic readiness for the program. After completing the CMAT, you will receive a report outlining your strengths, areas of concern, and suggestions for improvement. Please note that we will accept your results from the GMAT in place of taking the CMAT. Please speak with your Admissions Advisor for more information about the CMAT.
Personal interview: The final step before your application goes before the Admission Committee is a personal interview. Typically this interview will be conducted by the Director of the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program, either in person or over the telephone.
