Learning Model

Four Key Elements, One Unique Program
There are four key elements to the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA learning model - combining to create an MBA like no other, and leaders ready to make a powerful, positive impact.

Residential Sessions
The Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA program includes three residential sessions held in classroom settings. These sessions enable you to work with professors and fellow participants in an intensive experience covering both management fundamentals and leading-edge business topics.

Opening Session The program begins with a two-week residential session - one week at Queen's and one week at Cornell - during which you will engage in workshops designed to aid you in establishing high-performance Boardroom Learning Teams. Core courses will also begin during this session, allowing you to work on both individual and team assignments. Additionally, you'll attend special seminars to become familiarized with the program's videoconference technology and customized electronic network.

Business Venturing Session The primary focus of this session (also spent on both campuses) is the study of topics and issues related to the management of new ventures, providing an excellent opportunity to prepare for your Business Venturing Project.

Global Business Session The third residential session, focusing on global business issues, is held at The Johnson School's executive education center at the IBM Palisades Facility just outside New York City. This session will include visits to headquarters of multinational organizations as well as guest speakers and panels from the international business world. You'll examine international business issues such as legal and human resource complexities, cross-cultural issues, market analyses, and the challenges of international partnerships.

Interactive Boardroom Sessions
The multi-point, interactive, videoconference class sessions link Boardroom Learning Teams and faculty in locations across North America. These boardroom sessions are normally held on three consecutive Saturdays with the fourth Saturday off. This allows participants the broad perspective of an international "classroom," while working within a highly effective team setting.

Electronic Community
The program offers a customized electronic learning platform to support communication with faculty, your learning team, and members of other learning teams outside of class sessions. This allows you to use your time more effectively by providing access to the professors and resources of both Cornell and Queen's. Electronic access to course notes before class means you can spend your class time discussing and debating. You will also submit your assignments electronically, allowing you the flexibility to work anytime and anywhere.

Networking
A key element of the learning model is the opportunity for networking - not simply with your immediate learning team, but with students from other sites as well. The emphasis placed on teamwork helps you build a vital network of mutual support during the program, and lifelong business relationships to further your career.
