Admissions Criteria
Criteria for Acceptance
In selecting individuals for admission to all of our degree programs at the Johnson School, our goal is to choose individuals who will not only succeed in their degree program, but will go on to make a real and lasting impact on their organizations and the world around them.
We look for individuals with a strong academic record and proven leadership ability. In addition to these fundamental criteria, we also look for demonstrated success in their professional, academic, and personal lives. Beyond these factors, we seek individuals with an appetite for learning and growth, a willingness to work closely and collaboratively with others, and openness to the rich variety of ideas, cultures, and perspectives that are increasingly a part of our global community.
Our Process for Evaluating Two Year MBA Applicants
Every application we receive is reviewed by our Admissions Committee, a team comprised of professionals from our Admissions Department, along with representatives of our students and administration.
In our first review of applications and academic transcripts, we look for evidence of the "must have" list in the application itself: your academic success in graduate and undergraduate degree programs; your quantitative coursework and/or experience; the jobs you've held and your track record of success in them, and evidence of your initiative and leadership in your workplace and/or community.
Next, we take a careful look at your essays and letters of recommendation. In combination, these can give us more insight into who you are as an individual—what your strengths are, what makes you stand out, what qualities and abilities you could contribute to the learning and work environment.
Once we have narrowed the field, we invite candidates to interview with us, either on campus, or in meetings with staff and/or alumni in various locations around the world. Through these, we gain a better sense of who you are, how you think, what you believe and care about, how your ethics influence your behavior and decisions, how you communicate, and more.
Because we believe strongly that the greatest learning occurs in a dynamic environment of diverse individuals, there is no formula for making our final selection. We try to create classes of individuals who come together from multiple cultures and traditions, with widely differing perspectives, ideas, and approaches. We look for those who balance strength of character with flexibility, openness, and compassion for others.
