Curriculum

Our MBA core curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation in all of the functional areas of business, as well as to develop strong analytical and decision-making skills. Beyond this core, the Johnson School gives Two-Year and Accelerated MBA students unusual flexibility to design their own curriculum and meet individual goals. Course maps guide students in preparing for various finance careers.

Also at their disposal: the Johnson School's curricular depth in Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, and more. In addition, our students have access to more than 4,000 courses throughout Cornell University, including industry-specific finance courses offered through the university's renowned School of Hotel Administration and Program in Real Estate, and courses in Financial Engineering at Cornell's School of Operations Research and Information Engineering.

One prime feature of our curriculum is the semester-long immersions (for Two-Year MBA students) and practicum (for Accelerated MBA students). These thoughtfully integrated courses and applied performance-learning experiences provide exceptional preparation for a number of specific careers in finance before students undertake their internships.

In addition, a select group of Two-Year MBA Student Portfolio Managers apply cutting-edge theory to real assets for real investors in our $13MM Cayuga MBA Fund. They receive academic credit for a two-semester Applied Portfolio Management course in their second year.

Students in our Accelerated MBA program undertake a semester-long practicum during the fall semester, culminating in a two-week internship in January. Individual students can tailor this practicum to their own career goals; many opt for focusing on finance.

The immersions, practicums, and other real-world experiences we offer are an essential part of performance learning, our unique approach to hands-on learning.
