Investment Banking
Key Features
Practicum
The practicum consists of a series of weekly case studies on current investment banking deals. Topics covered include:
- Recent initial public offerings
- Friendly mergers
- Hostile takeovers
- Novel financing methods
The practicum concludes with a new-business case competition, in which teams of students present transaction ideas in the same manner as investment bankers do with clients.
Investment Banking Passport
The Investment Banking Passport kicks off in August, shortly after students arrive on campus. It begins with a series of orientation lectures by faculty, alumni, career management, and second-year students, who collectively provide a comprehensive perspective on investment banking.
Days with Bankers
This autumn trip coincides with the university's October break, and provides students with a comprehensive introduction to investment banking in New York City. Visits range from Bloomberg World Headquarters to a variety of investment banks.
Topics include:
- Introductory valuation
- accessing market data
- Brief overviews of several current transactions
- Informal networking opportunities with bankers
Week on Wall Street
This part of the program is conducted during the two weeks of Cornell's winter break in January. Week one consists of instruction in Ithaca from both professional Wall Street trainers and Johnson School faculty, all of whom provide preparatory lectures for case studies conducted in New York City during Week Two.
During the New York City visits, students typically visit three to four different investment banks daily. By the conclusion of the program, they have interacted with all the top advisors on Wall Street.
