J. Michael Johnston, MBA '89

J. Michael Johnston is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Steelhead Partners, a Seattle-based hedge fund. Prior to starting Steelhead, Mr. Johnston served as a Senior Vice President/Senior Portfolio Manager for Loews Corporation from 1992-1996. Mr. Johnston started his investment career in 1989 as a high yield and investment grade credit analyst at Prudential Insurance Company. In 1991, he was later promoted to Co-Portfolio Manager of a major fixed income portfolio in Prudential's General Account.

Mr. Johnston is a founder of the Luke 12:48 Foundation. He has previously served as a board member of the American Foundation for Chess.

Mr. Johnston was educated at Texas Christian University (BA with honors in Finance, 1985). He is a graduate of the Johnson Graduate School of Business at Cornell University (MBA, 1989). Mr. Johnston lives in Bellevue, Washington with his wife, the former Marybeth Leedham, and their four children, Michael, Brittany, Wesley, and Clayton.
