John P. Neafsey, BME '62, MBA '63
John Neafsey is president of JN Associates, Inc. of Norwalk, CT and chairman of Alliance Coal Company and Alliance Resource Partners, MLP. He was president and chief executive officer of Greenwich Capital Markets from 1990 to 1993. He joined Sun Company in 1970, became vice president for financial services in 1975, senior vice president and chief financial officer in 1978, and executive vice president responsible for Canada, coal, real estate and leasing as well as chief financial officer in 1984. He is a director of Alliance, West Pharmaceutical Packaging Company; Chairman of the Board, Constar International.
Elected first as an alumni trustee (1985-89), Mr. Neafsey served as an at-large trustee from 1989-2001 and as chairman of the Committee on Board Membership from 1997-2001. During his tenure, he also served as a member and co-chairman of Academic Affairs, and Executive, Investment, and Development Committees of the Board. In 2000, Mr. Neafsey was elected as a member on the Board of Overseers for Weill Cornell Medical College and served in that capacity until 2006. He has been an active worker for Cornell since graduation, serving on secondary schools committees, Cornell University Council, the advisory council of the Johnson Graduate School of Management, and the Advisory Council for the Engineering College. He was chairman of the Johnson School's Capital Campaign and co-chair of the Regional Campaign. The Board of Trustees elected Mr. Neafsey as a Presidential Councilor and Trustee Emeritus in 2001.
Mr. Neafsey and his wife Rilla live in South Norwalk, CT. Their son, Will, is an '89 graduate (Engineering) with a '92 MBA.
