Message from the acting director: We're Moving On
The dog days of August have given way to a new academic year, full of high expectations, lots of homework, and a host of student and alumni activities. As many of you may know already, the Johnson School's Office of Alumni Affairs and Development is in the midst of many changes. [read more]
Forbes ranks Johnson School #9
Forbes magazine has announced the results of its fourth survey of the Best Business Schools. The Johnson School is ranked #9 among full-time business schools. We are pleased that these results reflect that Johnson School graduates are extremely competitive in the job market. Unlike other major magazine rankings, Forbes' methodology is entirely based on a return on investment measure. Forbes surveyed 25,000 alumni of 111 MBA programs from the class of 2000. The analysis compares the financial (salary) benefit from earning an MBA against the cost of acquiring the degree. The ranking is based on a calculated "5-year MBA gain"— the adjusted total compensation for the five years after graduation minus tuition and the forgone salary during school. Complete results and details are available online in the Forbes article.
Johnson School best for Hispanic students
The Johnson School has received the prestigious 2005 Brillante Award for Best Educational Institution for Hispanics. The award, given by the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA; www.nshmba.org), is for:
- Demonstrating exceptional achievement
- Making outstanding contributions as a leader in exemplary roles that have resulted in significant positive impact in the workplace, community at large, Hispanic community and/or NSHMBA
The Johnson School was chosen via majority vote by the NSHMBA Brillante Awards Selection Committee, which comprises the organization's national board of directors and local chapter presidents. The award will be given during the NSHMBA Annual Conference and Career Expo, which this year takes place September 29-October 1 in Anaheim, CA. The conference last year had nearly 300 corporate and educational sponsors and more than 6,000 attendees.
A New Look for the JS Web Site
In July, the Johnson School introduced its new Web site design at www.johnson.cornell.edu (If you don't see the new site right away, you may need to first refresh your browser.) The revamped site is designed to be more compatible with Cornell's main site and includes streamlined navigation and greatly expanded "sell" sections designed to better articulate the school's brand position and strengths.
However it is—like all good sites—still a work in progress. Over the next several months we will continue revamping content in many sections and adding new features. We welcome your feedback, and would like to know if you experience any problems (with your browser or otherwise.) You can e-mail Peter Krakow directly at pck7@cornell.edu.
Additionally, if you are living outside the United States, please try accessing the site and let us know of any problems or concerns. We continue to test on a variety of platforms and browsers.
