Karrie L. BorgeltDean's Asia trip strengthens ties
Greetings from Sage Hall, where the students are wrapping up for winter break, preparing for the student treks in January, and just relieved to have some down time.

Dean Robert Swieringa, Becky Mitchell, associate dean for alumni affairs and development, and I spent most of November traveling to Asia to meet with alumni. Johnson School alumni gathered in five cities for alumni receptions with the dean.

Many alumni played an important role in the dean's successful visit to Asia. Alumni helped us plan the evening receptions and inform alumni in the area of the visit. The dean was the featured guest at alumni receptions in New Delhi and Mumbai, India, and Hong Kong, Seoul, and Tokyo. Both Johnson School alumni and all Cornellians were invited to the receptions, which allowed the broader Cornell community to network and hear from Dean Swieringa.

Currently, our regional clubs in Asia have strong volunteers in place who have managed to run most of the alumni programming independently. However, in order for us to better serve our alumni, we need to partner with the leaders more frequently. The Office of Alumni Affairs is committed to strengthening ties with the regional alumni clubs in Asia, as well as globally. This trip allowed us to meet our volunteers, plan for future alumni programming, and show our support. As a result, we have broader alumni outreach in each of those cities.

As we continue to expand our alumni outreach globally, we travel next with Dean Swieringa to Europe in March, and we truly look forward to meeting more of our alumni around the world.

From all of us in Alumni Affairs, we wish you a wonderful holiday season with your friends and family.

Kind Regards,

Karrie L. Borgelt, director
