Johnson School Community on the Road!
January 2007 was a fantastic demonstration of how our Johnson School community maximizes opportunities to build relationships among all its members. Programming was coordinated by alumni, students, and faculty, all aimed at connecting our constituents and offering value-added programming.
The momentum started the first week of January with Student Treks in the Pacific Northwest, coupled with alumni events in Portland and Seattle. Meanwhile, in Vancouver, BC, Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs and Development Becky Mitchell and Director of the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA program Danny Szpiro hosted a luncheon with alumni. Students on the Silicon Valley Trek gathered with alumni in the Bay Area on January 4, and the Asia Business Trek coordinated an event with alumni in Hong Kong on January 5.
Alumni Affairs and other staff and faculty converged in southern California the second week in January. We started this West-Coast swing with a cocktail reception in San Diego. The event gathered alumni of the Accelerated MBA program (formerly the Twelve-Month Option) and prospective students of the program with honored guest Professor David BenDaniel. From there, we headed north for the annual Predictions Dinners, this year honoring Dean Swieringa in his last year as Dean. Scott Taylor, MBA '90, planned and led a successful Los Angeles-area Predictions Dinner, which was hosted by Peter Nolan, '80, MBA '82, at the Peninsula Beverly Hills. In San Francisco, Sarah Brubacher, MBA '99, completed her term as President of the Johnson School Club of the Bay Area, with the 13th Annual Predictions Dinner. Thanks to the success of these and other Predictions Dinners, other regional clubs are showing interest holding similar events in their regions.
New York City was the next destination for both alumni and student events. During the week of January 16, 2007, Johnson School students enjoyed being in the financial capital of the world, while participating in the 21st annual "Week on Wall Street." The trek included a full schedule of meetings with major business leaders from companies headquartered in New York City. In spite of their packed schedules, students still found time to mix work and fun during their week in New York. We wrapped up the two-week road trip on January 18th, with The Business of Executive Compensation, hosted for Johnson School and Cornell Law School alumni by the Manhattan law firm Debevoise & Plimpton.
A sincere thank you goes out to our alumni who contributed to making these events successful during the month of January.
Sincerely,
Karrie
