Karrie BorgeltMaximizing opportunities with students and alumni
Johnson School students hit the road for the Student Treks in January and, as in years past, we partnered with alumni and faculty as well as students in order to connect our constituents and offer value-added programming to our regional alumni clubs.

We crisscrossed the globe from Boston to Hong Kong in January with a total of twelve alumni events ranging from student/alumni receptions (to go hand-in-hand with the Student Treks) and an expanded series of our annual Predictions Dinners. More...

Announcing our Johnson School Board of Alumni Leaders
Join us in welcoming our new Board of Alumni Leaders, who will hold their first meeting in April 2008. This board will provide the leadership to foster a close connection between the Johnson School and its alumni. Their primary focus will be to strengthen the class officer and regional clubs programs and to serve as a collective voice for our alumni. They will be responsible for evaluating the current regional club program activities and class officer structure as well as partnering with the Alumni Affairs office in developing the strategic annual plan. The Board of Alumni Leaders will focus on "practice sharing" among alumni groups by convening annual meetings of constituencies to share success stories and challenges in order to help strengthen all constituencies. The board will serve in an advisory capacity to the Johnson School's dean, staff, and Advisory Council.

The Parker Series: Designed to educate, stimulate, and broaden perspectives
Jeffrey P. Parker '65, MEng '66, MBA '70, managing director of The Parker Family Limited Partnership, founder of FirstCall and cofounder of both CCBN and StreetEvents, does not do things by halves. After moderating a panel discussion in Boston last year, "Asset Management Revisited: Strategies in a Newly Competitive Era," Parker decided to sponsor a number of similar events in cities around the world. The new Parker Series brings authoritative business experts to locations around the United States as well as London and Hong Kong. Jeff's goal is to make these "networking events designed to educate, stimulate, and broaden your perspective on timely business issues as well as what is going on at the Johnson School." More...

The Business of Asset Management
The Johnson School took its "Business of..." series to New York City on January 17, 2008, for the Business of Asset Management, hosted by Morgan Stanley and co-sponsored by the Johnson Club of New York. The event brought together three panelists to discuss issues in asset management, each with a unique perspective. Sanjeev Bhojraj, associate professor of accounting and faculty director of the Parker Center for Investment Research, moderated the panel.
"Business of..." series panelists
Maureen McGrath, MBA '84, managing director and senior analyst in equity research at Newberger Berman, a division of Lehman Brothers, served as a panelist representing fundamental investing. Edward A. Reilly, MBA '06, vice president at Morgan Stanley, manages a $10-billion fixed-income investment portfolio, and offered the perspective of a fixed-income manager. And Michael Graves, managing director of Swiss Re, stirred discussion from his vantage point in quantitative investing. Graves heads a team that runs a global portfolio of automated strategies based on quantitative models that trade in every asset class.

CQEMBA Program expands to Texas and Georgia
The Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA program has received approval to expand into Texas and Georgia, and will soon begin recruiting in Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston for the Class of 2010, which begins in late June. The CQEMBA program currently has sites located in New York State, Ohio, Washington, Oregon, Washington, D.C., and throughout Canada. "The addition of Georgia and Texas will allow us to expand further the reach of the Johnson School," says Program Director Danny Szpiro. "We have been pleased with the steady growth of the Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program, and our expansion into three new cities will give us renewed momentum as we recruit the Class of 2010."

The Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA Program is offered in partnership with Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. Approximately 110 participants are expected to enroll in the Class of 2010.
