John Alexander

John E. Alexander is chief executive officer and founder of The CBORD Group Inc., a systems integration firm. Mr. Alexander has built The CBORD Group from a handful of part-time employees to a corporation employing more than 240 people and serving over 4,000 clients worldwide. CBORD is the market leader in systems for foodservice and institutional management. Previous to this position he was vice president in the Money Market Division of Bankers Trust Company (now Deutsche Bank).
John has strong ties to Cornell University. He was elected to Cornell's Board of Trustees by the alumni body to a four-year term beginning July 1, 2000, Mr. Alexander and his wife Elaine (Hotel '77) serve as co-chairs for the Tower Club, which is Cornell's recognition society for leadership-level supporters of the University. Mr. Alexander has served on the Alumni Affairs and Development, Buildings and Properties, Land Grant and Statutory College Affairs, and Trustee-Community Communications Committees of the Board of Trustees. Since his election, he has also served as a member on the Audit Committee and recently became Chairman of that committee. Alexander has served on several trustee task forces, including the Downtown Ithaca Office Building Advisory Committee, the Land Grant Technology Transfer Panel, the Life Sciences Technology Initiative Task Force, the Capital Project Cost Team, as well as the Alumni Affairs Steering Committee.
Locally, Mr. Alexander is involved in numerous activities including FOODNET, Tompkins County's elderly home-delivered meal program, the Sciencenter's Advisory Council, the Boy Scouts of America, the Cayuga Venture Fund, and the Tompkins County Trust Company Board of Directors. For the 2002-2003 year, Alexander chaired the Tompkins County United Way Campaign.

John Jaquette is the Executive Director of Cornell's University-wide Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Program (EPE). EPE is governed by the nine Deans of the participating colleges at Cornell. The Program serves undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and alumni.
Prior to assuming his position at Cornell in 1997, John held senior executive positions with a number of entrepreneurial health care companies specializing in addiction treatment, mental health, rehabilitation and long term care from 1984 to 1995.
From 1970 to 1984 John helped found and develop North Carolina's largest community based, hospital centered, alcoholism treatment service system in Wake County (Raleigh). He was the CEO from 1980-84 and the Clinical Director and from 1976-80.
John has a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University, a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Theology from Duke University Divinity School, and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
John is a member of the Steering Committee for the Stanford's Roundtable on Entrepreneurship Education (REE) and a member of the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Center Directors and the National Consortium for Life Sciences Entrepreneurship. He is also an Emeritus Member of the Board of Visitors of Duke University Divinity School.

Richard Shafer

Dr. Shafer is Associate Dean for Corporate Relations at the Johnson School at Cornell University. He is Executive Director of the Center for Leadership in Dynamic Organizations at Cornell. He is also a Senior Associate at the Center for Organizational Fitness, specializing in working with senior teams on strategy execution, organizational design and change management. Prior to joining Cornell in 1997, he was a partner in Deloitte Consulting with responsibility for a regional change leadership consulting practice. He served as National Director of Human Resources for Deloitte & Touche LLP for 12 years, after holding a variety of senior executive positions at Corning, Inc.
In his various consulting and human resource management roles Dr. Shafer has worked closely with the leadership teams of a variety of corporate and professional firms and non-profit organizations. His role has centered on creating the change strategy for and facilitating large-scale change. Projects have included mergers and acquisitions, starting new businesses, restructuring and reengineering functions, implementing information systems, and launching a variety of innovative human resource programs in areas such as leadership development and the advancement of women.
Dr. Shafer completed his Ph.D. at Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1997. His research and recent consulting has centered on developing an organizational model for creating agile organizations, built to deal with continuous, unpredictable marketplace change.

Entrepreneurship and small business management are the focus of Professor Streeter's research, teaching, and outreach programs. She is part of the university-wide Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Program, which offers courses in entrepreneurship in almost all of Cornell's schools and colleges. Her research interests include the role of entrepreneurship and small business in economic development, with a particular focus on the effectiveness of business training and planning for start-ups.
Professor Streeter has developed a database of digital video interviews with entrepreneurs across the country. The in-depth interviews are digitized, cut into clips by topic, and are used in a multimedia format to teach entrepreneurship and small business management. The entrepreneurs she interviewed range from early start-ups to established companies and from high-tech Internet companies to manufacturing and service firms.
Professor Streeter is also involved in helping to train start-up businesses in New York State. As part of the Entrepreneurial Education and Outreach Program, she is currently involved in a variety of programs aimed at helping New York entrepreneurs make informed choices about entrepreneurial ventures.

Abby is responsible for the development and stewardship of relationships between the college and corporations and foundations. Through an understanding of a broad range of college research, instructional, and student development initiatives, the director cultivates and solicits corporate and foundation support for college programs. The director plans, facilitates, and manages activities that help corporations, foundations and the college recognize common opportunities and develop effective partnerships. Prior to holding this position, she was President of the Business Innovation Center, a business incubator started by Cornell University and Tompkins County. She has held positions in Business Development, Finance, and Marketing at Corning Incorporated, and served as an Assistant Portfolio Manager at the Financial Planning and Investment firm, John G. Ullman and Associates. In addition to her MBA from the Johnson School, Abby did doctoral work at Harvard University, and holds a BA from Princeton University.
