Our company is based on two related, but separate, pieces of intellectual property developed in the School of Chemical Engineering at Cornell. As a small start-up company, our primary legal concerns were initially related to the terms of both the option and license agreement covering this IP. It was clear from the first meeting with Boylan, Brown, Vidgor, and Wilson LLP (Rochester, NY) that the firm's special emphasis on intellectual property, technology matters, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions would be a great fit for our rapidly evolving needs in the biopharmaceutical industry. This fact, I believe, speaks very well to the excellent job Zach Shulman has done to match clients with attorneys knowledgeable in relevant areas. Most recently, we have advanced into corporate structure, deal terms for early rounds of funding from angel investors, and corporate governance. We have nothing but accolades for the professional manner in which we as clients have been treated during the course of our involvement with the BRL program. Lindsay Silber, the law student assigned to Gendyne, has been very responsive and thorough in her efforts to organize and to facilitate meetings between our company and Bob Mechur. We've found that the conference call format has served as an invaluable tool to get many of our legal questions answered in a timely manner. In light of the fact that both Lindsay and Bob have full time commitments, we have been very impressed and pleased by the short turn-around time between submission of a document/contract for review and final expert counsel on the specific terms under consideration.
The very reasonable cost structure for the services provided by BRL have enabled us to direct critical financial resources to other areas of our business development. As a young company incubating on the Cornell Campus each penny directed toward development and marketing of our products, and not toward prohibitive legal fees, is a closer step toward firmly establishing ourselves as a company attractive to professional investment.
