John Neuman is the President and CEO of the 1492 Consulting Group, a globally sourced, management-consulting firm based in Ithaca, New York. This firm's particular focus is on new strategic visions and their successful implementations relative to top management's most pressing priorities, drawing upon domestic and international expert consultants and affiliations as needed to accomplish its assignments.

Though the firm was formed in mid-2000, in the two years prior to the fall of 2004, Mr. Neuman was on a "hiatus" to be the CEO of eCornell, Cornell University's online subsidiary for Professional Development and Training courses and programs. Just prior to the formation of 1492, he was an Executive Vice President at The Michael Allen Company (MAC), a growth-strategy, management-consulting firm based in Westport, Connecticut.

Mr. Neuman has 35 years of broad-based management consulting experience with particular emphasis on market-driven operational and strategic improvement opportunities. His assignments have included such strategic areas as: revenue growth, advanced alliances, e-business strategies, supply chain optimization and integration, mergers and acquisitions, marketing strategies, manufacturing throughput, business process re-engineering, new product development, organization structures, new ventures, executive coaching, and change management. His clients have ranged globally in many industries: consumer goods, industrial, financial, government, retail, utilities, health care, pharmaceutical, defense/aerospace, high-technology, professional services, and not-for-profit institutions.

Immediately prior to joining MAC in the fall of 1998, Mr. Neuman was a Vice President at EDS/A.T. Kearney in the Integrated Supply Chain practice. For 8 years, he served as a partner with Coopers & Lybrand in strategic consulting (the last 6-1/2 years with Meritus Consulting, a Coopers & Lybrand/IBM manufacturing & supply chain consulting joint venture) and over 4 years with Wall Street investment banking and law firms. Also, he was a Partner at McKinsey & Company where he spent 14 years. From 1976 to1987, Mr. Neuman served on the Board of the St Agnes Hospital & Children's Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY (with 9 years as the Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and the last 3 years as the Board Chairman).

Mr. Neuman has been an active speaker at over 3 dozen public symposiums and conferences, a frequent publisher of more than 30 articles (including the Harvard Business Review) and book chapters on a broad variety of management issues. For several years, Mr. Neuman was the Marketing Strategy expert columnist for the AMA's Marketing News. He is a frequent lecturer at several leading graduate schools, including Wharton, Harvard, Darden, NYU, Cornell and Columbia. He has been active in the Business Strategy Council, Strategic Account Management Association, and the Council of Logistics Management organizations. In addition, Mr. Neuman has served for years on the Advisory Board of the Cornell University Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Program (and as their Chairman of the Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year Selection Committee), the Cornell Council Committee on Technology Transfer, and the Steering Committee of the Cornell Corporate Outreach Group. He serves on the Board of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and heads the Government Affairs Committee. In addition, he is on the Boards of the Cayuga Medical Center and of the Sciencenter in Ithaca, NY.

Mr. Neuman holds both a BEE in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Engineering from Cornell University With High Distinction, plus an MBA, Summa Cum Laude, from University of Pennsylvania Wharton Graduate School with a concentration in industrial management and management science/operations research.
