Course Planning

Course Map for Consulting 2009-2010

Preparation for a career in consulting or general management involves developing four fundamental skills: (1) a strategic perspective on each functional area within an organization and the interplay of those functions with each other, (2) an understanding of how an organization interacts with its competitive environment, (3) forming logical arguments and communicate them clearly and concisely in oral or written form, and (4) creating order out of unstructured environments. This course map includes a selection of courses offered by the Johnson School as well as by other graduate departments which can help you develop skills in each area. It is recommended that you take each of the fundamental courses listed below and then take at least one course in each of the other subgroups. The courses highlighted in yellow are considered critical for a career in consulting or general management. In each of the discipline areas, courses not highlighted are suggested courses for you to consider. You should strongly consider taking at least one course in each area. You should take either the 3 credit NBA 5660 Oral and Written Communications Course or the two 1.5 credit courses. The order of the courses maps to the combined fall and spring semester.
