Course Map for Marketing 2009-2010

Marketing is more than sales or advertising. It is concerned with the determination of an appropriate mix of products and services to be offered by a firm at a given period of time, and the selection of appropriate supporting activities such as pricing, advertising and distribution. The determination of the product mix depends critically on what the (potential) customers want, on the firm's strengths and weaknesses, and on the strengths and weaknesses of competitors. Marketing is an appropriate and useful area of study for many students at the Johnson School, even those who do not intend to pursue a career in marketing.

The first list of courses below shows courses that are considered central to marketing. For the purpose of considering marketing as a concentration, however, it may be useful to separate a number of possible career orientations. In this course map, an additional set of recommended electives is identified separately for three different careers. Also, at the end of this description, a few courses offered in other departments at Cornell which may be relevant to career plans, are identified.
