Core Course Exemption or Substitution
The core requirement can be satisfied in one of three ways: passing the core course, passing an approved substitute for the core course, or by gaining exemption from the core requirement. The only core courses for which there are no exemption or substitution possibilities is Strategy, NCC 5090 and Managing & Leading Organizations, NCC 5040.
In most cases exemption is possible only by passing an exemption examination regardless of your past exposure to the material. For exceptions to this policy, see the detailed description by core area. In some cases, however, it may be possible to qualify to take a higher level course as a substitute for a core course if sufficient knowledge is demonstrated on the exemption examination.
Exemption examinations for most core courses will be given immediately prior or post to the Orientation Program. The examination for Managing Operations (NCC 5080), which is taught in the spring semester, will be given during late fall or in January during the first week of classes.
Descriptions of the exemption procedures for most core courses, information on course content and review materials for the exams, and sample exemption examinations, when available, are provided in the navigation to the right. Please read these materials carefully.
