MD/MBA Dual Degree Program
MD/MBA Dual DegreeThe Johnson School has partnered with Weill Cornell Medical College to offer medical students the option of earning an MBA in just twelve months. The MD/MBA program is designed for those aspiring to be physician executives – those seeking leadership roles in major health organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology firms. The MD/MBA program capitalizes on Cornell's investment in the New Life Sciences Initiative and the Johnson School's role in educating leaders for the fast-paced health care and biotechnology industry. Students in Weill Cornell Medical College are eligible to apply for the Johnson School/medical college dual-degree program before the fourth year of medical school. Students who will receive a dual degree will begin their program in the medical college and take a one-year leave of absence after the third year. They then join the Johnson School's Accelerated MBA program in the summer immediately following their third year of medical school and complete the degree requirements by the following May. Dual-degree students are offered 15 credit hours of advanced standing and complete 20 hours of core and 25 hours of elective courses to fulfill the 60-hour requirement for the MBA program. The MBA degree is granted after the student completes the fourth year of medical school and obtains the MD degree. Medical students in their fourth year may apply for the Accelerated MBA program, which they will begin at the completion of their fourth year, but should do so before the December 15 deadline.
