This Dual program is designed to provide both an MBA and a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations (MILR) degree to students seeking comprehensive professional education in both fields. It allows students to complete academic requirements for both degrees while eliminating overlapping course work.
- A dual degree candidate must be separately admitted into the MBA program of the Johnson Graduate School of Management and the MILR program of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
- Once a dual degree candidate begins taking courses at Cornell the student is considered a degree candidate in both ILR and JGSM regardless of the School in which the candidate is enrolled for a particular semester.
- A dual degree candidate must enroll for 2 semesters in the ILR School (paying ILR tuition) and 3 semesters in the JGSM (paying Johnson School tuition). It is important that you inform each college, a semester before of time, of the semester you will be registered with them. The dual degree candidate may choose which semesters he/she will enroll in each college. Regardless of the college of enrollment, the dual degree candidate may take courses in either college during any of the five semesters.
- Dual degree candidates and their advisors are expected to coordinate the entire five semester degree program. Advisors and candidates must pay attention to the Fall/Spring timing of required courses in both the MILR and MBA programs.
- The requirements for the MBA/MILR dual degree consist of:
-
18 credit hours of required MILR courses or approved substitutes
-
20 credit hours of core MBA courses
-
25 credit hours of elective MBA courses
-
13 elective credit hours that may be taken in any courses approved by the candidate's advisor
- All exemptions of required courses in either the MBA or MILR degree must be accomplished using the standard exemption (JGSM) or waiver (ILR) procedure in the appropriate school. Exemptions and waivers do not reduce the total number of credit hours required by the dual degree program.
