Technology Documents
Configuring Outlook 2007
Even if you are currently using Outlook to get your Email, you can configure Outlook to access the Johnson School Exchange server. Your old mailboxes will display next to the new ones, or you can import your email and contacts into the new environment from other email programs such as Outlook Express.
Scheduling Time with Team Members
Outlook/Exchange affords the School an opportunity to electronically schedule meetings and other calendar events, including reserving a breakout room in Sage Hall. Your Outlook calendar detail is viewable by others only when you have assigned them permission; otherwise your free and busy times are viewable by others when they propose a meeting with you using the Global Address List.
Managing Your Outlook Account
Follow the step-by-step instructions in the attached document to reduce the size of your mailbox using the Outlook desktop client. These features are not available via the web version of Outlook. If you have any problems, please stop by the HelpDesk.
Setting up Rules in Outlook
Amessage rule
defines the action Outlook takes for a sent or received message if the message meets certain conditions specified by the rule. For example, you might create a rule that tells Outlook to move all messages sent to the student spam lists into a specified folder rather than leaving them in your Inbox. Instructions for this specific need are listed in this document.
Accessing Outlook Via the Web
Outlook Web Access (OWA) is the web interface to the Johnson School Exchange mail server.
Accessing Items from Calendar of Events
The calendar of events is a list of all school wide events including all class and exam schedules. Many students wish to have access to some of all of this data in a real-time environment. The attached instructions will show you the best methods of accessing this data.
Configuring Outlook 2003
Even if you are currently using Outlook to get your Email, you can configure Outlook to access the Johnson School Exchange server. Your old mailboxes will display next to the new ones, or you can import your email and contacts into the new environment from other email programs such as Outlook Express.
Outlook Account Locked Out?
After three attempts of entering your Outlook password, the system will prevent further attempts of logging in by locking your account. Wait for 30 minutes, then try again.
Self Guided Laptop Configuration
This document will give you the needed instructions to configure your laptop on your own. If you run into problems, please contact the Helpdesk.
Wireless Access in Sage Hall
To connect to the network via wireless, you will need to connect to Cornell's RedRover network. You will need to register with Cornell to use wireless on campus.
NOTE: Please note that these instructions are valid for your Local Outlook desktop client. This function does not work via OWA (Outlook Web Access).
Alumni Migration 2007
Please see the attached documents for further assistance.
What you need to do:
- Sometime before August 1, 2007 (details for each step are covered in the attached document):
- Set up a 3rd party e-mail account (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Juno);
- Change your email forwarding in WHOIAM (www.whoiam.cornell.edu);
- Save any Outlook/Exchange e-mail, contacts, or calendar folders you want to keep;
- Remove the Exchange account from your Outlook setup.
Student Letterhead Template
A few points of clarification:
- This can be used as electronic document, or printed. If the latter, it's preferred to do so in two-color but is acceptable (by Cornell standards) in black and white. If you do print, use a quality paper stock and printer to insure the most professional appearance and best reproduction of the logo.
- There is a 2nd optional line for a club affiliation (if needed). This can also be used if you wish to identify with a specific program (such as the Twelve Month Option, for example.)
- You are responsible to ensure your letters are professional and free of any grammar or spelling errors. Image is everything!
- You should use your own address information, not the Johnson School's (particularly for cover letters).
Sharing Documents with Team Members
In the corporate world many documents are written or reviewed by a team. As a student and involved member of the Johnson School community, you may need to share a "document in progress" with members of your project team. You will want to be able to make changes and comments on the document for which Microsoft Office and Outlook have several features that will help in this endeavor.
