Asset Management

Education

Asset Management, Investment Research, Accounting, Economics, Finance, and related fields offer rich learning opportunities at the Johnson School.

Our approach to education is to provide students with an excellent foundation in theory and knowledge, and then to challenge them to apply these in settings where they have real-world responsibilities, and receive continual feedback from experts. We call this approach "Performance Learning." In the area of asset management, these are some of the special opportunities we provide.

Immersions
Unlike most MBA programs, the Johnson School offers the advanced training of this "semester in reality" to students during the first year, enabling them to enter the summer internship ready to perform. In the immersion, concentrated packages of courses provide an in-depth theory and knowledge base, while site visits, live cases, and interaction with practitioners provide high-yield applied learning experiences. Immersions for students concentrating on investment research and asset management include:

Capital Markets and Asset Management

Investment Banking

Managerial Finance

Internships
With excellent preparation through immersions or customized programs that incorporate real-world performance-learning opportunities, students are well positioned for summer internships. Johnson School students often find themselves far better prepared to undertake responsibilities in their internships than their peers from other schools. The financial industry has a strong track record of recruiting Johnson School students for summer internships.

The Johnson School's highly ranked Career Management Center helps students prepare for all aspects of job-seeking, including internships.

Related Fields
Students with an interest in asset management also can learn about new venture creation and capital funding through the Johnson School's extensive Entrepreneurship programs. These include the student-operated BR Ventures venture capital fund, BR Incubator virtual consulting organization, and BR Legal services to start-up companies.

In addition, our students have abundant opportunities to study various aspects of economics and finance from other Cornell programs and departments. MBA students are encouraged to explore those resources, and may take up to 25 percent of their credit hours outside the Johnson School.

Executive Education
In addition to our degree-granting programs of study, the Johnson School works closely with organizations, tailoring educational programs to their specific needs.
