Consulting

Cases in Consulting Focus

This course focuses on developing frameworks and the process of analyzing complex business problems and creating solutions for them. The overarching methodology applies to a variety of business problems such as strategy development and deployment, supply chain inefficiencies and capital budgeting.

Thoughtful integration of approaches taught in strategy, marketing, finance, operations, and leadership courses improves the student's ability to flexibly implement multifaceted projects. Additionally, students learn the fundamentals of defining the root cause of a problem, developing a work plan, conducting analyses, managing a work team, creating a communication and change plan, overcoming internal conflict and resistance, and developing recommendations.

The end of the course focuses on understanding and applying the basic consulting process as a consultant-for-hire and covers all the elements of a bona-fide consulting engagement, including selling the engagement, scoping the project, contracting with the client, forming the consulting team, creating consultant/client work teams, and developing potential follow-on work. Students hone their presentation skills in a series of presentations throughout the course and learn from visits by experienced practitioners who offer both client and consulting perspectives.
