The Johnson School Leadership Model

The Johnson School Leadership Model Our Leadership Model is the foundation for our philosophy of leadership, which we teach throughout the MBA experience.

We developed our Leadership Model through comprehensive research into the foremost leadership frameworks and competencies, and through benchmarking highly successful applications. Several years in development, the Johnson School Leadership Model identifies critical abilities, with unique emphasis on personal mastery at its core.

Working with scholars at the Center for Advanced Human Resource Study, we benchmarked the leadership competencies of more than 50 Fortune 100 firms and combined those findings with a thorough review of the most recent research on leadership skills.

Not surprisingly, Johnson School recruiter surveys reveal that these leadership skills are in high demand.

We use the model not only as a theoretical basis, but as the foundation for applied learning as well. The Model reveals that leaders can strengthen their abilities in any area by developing the individual competencies associated with it.

We not only use the model as the basis for teaching theory, but it is the foundation for applied learning as well. One of the key tools through which we help students develop personal mastery is our 360-degree evaluation instrument. Students receive feedback on all their own leadership traits, and then have multiple opportunities to apply improvement strategies, practice skills, work with faculty and peer coaches, receive more feedback, and add depth as well as breadth to their own leadership capabilities.
