Cornell University The Johnson School at Cornell University

The Johnson School's focus on technology is matched by an emphasis on customer service. In contrast to many business school environments, the school's size makes it possible to change technology platforms quickly when necessary. In addition, we continually update and expand the technology tools available to students, faculty and staff. Some examples of the resources available include:

Instructional Lab
The Workday Computing Lab is located on the second floor in 201B Sage Hall. It includes 24 networked computers with a black and white laser printer and a color laser printer. It is open at all times, but may be reserved for instructional purposes.

Wireless Connectivity

Sage Hall has nearly 100% wireless (802.11a/b/g) coverage throughout the building for laptop computers and other portable devices.

Student Business Service Center

The Student Business Service Center is located on the second floor in 201A Sage Hall. It includes four networked computers with a black and white laser printer and a fax machine along with comfortable seating. It is open at all times.

Classrooms
The school has data ports and power for portable computers at every seat in every classroom - 1,600 ports throughout the building. State-of-the-art classroom projection systems enable faculty members to integrate computer presentations and simulations into the curriculum.

Video Teleconferencing

Through videoconferencing we "import" speakers and enable students to conduct long-distance job interviews.

Multimedia

Our faculty have access to staff dedicated to helping them use various media for learning. So, if your marketing class is looking at international packaging you might take a "virtual tour" of a product's package history or explore the differences in product packaging from country to country - all online.

QuickStations

On the classroom level there are eight QuickStations - computers for quick access - designed for e-mail or Internet checking between classes or after hours. Printing from the QuickStations is directed to the printers next to them.

Help Desk

The Help Desk comprises full-time staff and students who work to resolve students, faculty, and staff problems with their use of technology. Available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., by phone at 607-255-6300 (800-847-2082 option 6) and e-mail at HelpDesk@johnson.cornell.edu, and located in 253 Sage Hall. Students are encouraged to use their consultant in the Lab as well, who is available whenever the Lab is open. After business hours calls may be made to 255-9900 or Email to noc@cornell.edu to report problems.

Technology Documentation

This area includes locally written materials for various applications including HowTo's and step-by-step procedures for accomplishing tasks about which we are frequently asked. This information is stored in the Technology DOCs area of our Outlook Public Folders. Accessing them here requires your Outlook ID and password.

Faculty Computer Acquisitions

Full-time faculty who want to purchase replacement or newly acquired computer systems should fill out this form. Visiting faculty, PhD Students, lecturers, and presenters who need access to technology for classroom presentations should discuss their needs with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. If we have available equipment, a laptop may be reserved for regular use through a semester and may be picked up from the Help Desk and returned on each day the class is in session.

Summary of Systems
There are a variety of state-of-the-art systems that our students use to obtain information, plan their schedules, and coordinate contacts. See student systems descriptions and links.
