Professor McAdams's interests and publications are in global strategies for knowledge management, environmental management, and management consulting. He has served as a senior staff economist with the President's Council of Economic Advisers and as chief economic consultant and expert witness for the government in United States v. IBM. He has been a consultant to industry, government, the Ford Foundation, and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) especially on matters of science and technology policy. He received the Russell Distinguished Teaching Award in 1996 and 1998 and was elected to the rank of Senior Member of the IEEE in 2001.
