Iwan J. Azis
Professor Iwan Azis has addressed topics of macro-micro linkages, economic forecasting, and financial economics, and has published books and articles on these subjects. He has conducted research and consulting work for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations, the UN University, USAID, the ADB Institute-Tokyo, the Research Triangle Institute, as well as some government agencies. In early 1998, he was invited to speak before the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) of the U.S. Congress on the Asian Financial Crisis along with the deputy prime ministers of Thailand and Korea. His work on impact analysis has been adopted as one of the tools by the UN General Assembly (the 53rd session) on the implementation of provisions of the charter related to assistance to third states affected by the application of sanctions, UN report A/53/312, August, 1998.
Professor Azis has recently completed a five-year policy research for the ADB-I on post-crisis development paradigms in Asia. His current research interest is on how macroeconomic policies interact with business, the linkages between financial system and macroeconomy, and the role of international organizations in a financial crisis and international financial architecture.
Prior to his arrival to Cornell in 1992, he served as chairman of the department of economics and director of the inter-university center at the University of Indonesia. At Cornell he teaches macroeconomics and international trade, economics of financial crisis, and planning and policy modeling.
