Our Strategies and Five Key Initiatives
Our strategic plan directly addresses the challenges of the marketplace and our goal of being widely perceived as a premier, "top-ten" school of management. The plan is deliberately focused on delivering results in areas that will differentiate the Johnson School; it builds on our foundation of excellence in the functional areas of business. The plan outlines what we will do and, by omission, reflects what we have decided not to do. These are the core strategies underlying our plan:
- Strategically select management education areas in which we can hold a distinctive
position, and build a critical mass of resources in each of them.
- Build robust alliances with critical, targeted organizations and individuals to
extend our reach and impact—focusing first and foremost on the other colleges
and programs at Cornell.
- Creatively integrate theory and practice in all of our teaching through our
unique "performance learning" approach.
- Adjust our programming model to match the evolving management education
market and financially sustain and strengthen the school.
- Become a model of an effective organizational culture that is extremely diverse,
highly inclusive, and ethically impeccable.
- Extend the school into the marketplace through new ways to engage alumni,
corporate partners, and prospective students.
- Take our story to the marketplace.
There are five primary initiatives for executing these strategies:
- Develop Centers of Research, Learning, and Practice
- Create the Faculty for Our Future
- Lead in Diversity and Inclusion
- Match Our Programs to the Market
- Extend the School into the Marketplace
These initiatives will deliver on our mission to generate leading-edge knowledge and knowledgeable leaders.
