Johnson School admitted to The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management

September 21, 2009 | Ithaca, NY | The Johnson School at Cornell University is pleased to announce their selection to the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management (CGSM). The consortium is one of the country's preeminent organization for promoting diversity and inclusion in American business and began assisting the Johnson School with recruiting efforts this fall.

"We couldn't be more pleased to be admitted as a member to the consortium," said Joe Thomas, dean of the Johnson School. "We have long recognized this alliance as critical for our ongoing success in achieving our diversity targets -- from attracting a richly diverse student body to assisting diverse students and alumni in achieving their long-term career goals. Having the consortium as an active partner will, quite simply, be a fabulous thing for the school."

The Johnson School became only the 15th member school admitted to the consortium. Other member universities include the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, Yale's School of Management and the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

"The significance of becoming a consortium member cannot be overstated when it comes to our diversity efforts," said Randall Sawyer, director of Admissions for the Johnson School. "Their resources and network are second-to-none and will play a vital role in ensuring our admitted classes are representative of the true face of business today."

The consortium was established in 1966 in response to the clear dearth of African American males in business. After 1970, in keeping with the progressive philosophy on which the organization was founded, its mission evolved to include women, Hispanics, and Native Americans and has built a forty-year legacy of fostering inclusion and changing the ethnic and cultural composition of American business.
