May 21, 2009 | Ithaca, NY | William "Bill" W. Huling Jr. '68, MBA '74, was named interim associate dean of Alumni Affairs and Development at the Johnson School at Cornell University, May 13, 2009. A senior development officer with more than 21 years of experience in university alumni affairs and development at Cornell and the Johnson School, Huling served most recently as major gifts officer. "Bill has served in a number of Cornell positions, and he has especially strong working relationships with alumni, friends, and corporate leaders affiliated with the Johnson School," said Dean Joe Thomas. "I'm delighted that he has stepped forward to work in this crucial area for the school."

Before serving as major gifts officer, Huling directed the corporate development and corporate relationship efforts at the Johnson School. He worked closely with corporate partners, creating mutually beneficial involvement strategies. During his 10 years as senior director of Corporate Relations, he focused on increasing corporate interaction and attracting investments to the Johnson School, helping to meet strategic and recruiting goals. Major accomplishments included raising significant cash contributions and gifts-in-kind from corporate sources for a capital building campaign, leading the school's implementation of a customer relationship management system, and setting Johnson School corporate giving records for five consecutive fiscal years. Huling also effectively managed many student educational treks, including Week on Wall Street and trips to Silicon Valley and the Pacific Northwest. He successfully engaged new companies to participate in the on-campus recruiting program.

As director of Development for the Johnson School from 1991-94, Huling directed the school's Annual Fund and Reunion campaigns; managed the Leadership Gift Program, Tower Club, and Johnson Society; and provided stewardship for the Scholarship Program. His accomplishments include establishing the Dean's Society and setting an Annual Fund record in 1994.

Prior to the Johnson School, Huling directed Cornell University's Alumni Regional Programs in the Office of Alumni Affairs from 1988-91. As the associate director of Cornell Alumni Affairs, he emphasized the need for alumni clubs to develop a sense of purpose, to work closely with other alumni groups, and to focus on service-oriented programming and scholarship fundraising. He also served as the executive director of the Federation of Cornell Alumni Clubs and was the primary staff officer during the formation of the Cornell Alumni Federation.

A former military officer who earned both his BS and MBA degrees from Cornell, Huling is the advisor to the Johnson School Veteran's Club, serves on the Johnson School Admissions Interview Committee, and was appointed Cornell Coordinator of the Korean/Vietnam War Memorial. As the memorial project leader, he raised the funds to create a campus memorial that honors Cornellians who died in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and to establish a scholarship endowment fund that benefits children of veterans. In June 1993, Cornell President Frank H. T. Rhodes, participated in the dedication of the memorial, which is located in Anabel Taylor Hall. The memorial was rededicated in 2003.
