Gavirneni and Spataro Named Whitcomb Faculty Fellows
December 13, 2007 | Ithaca, NY | The Johnson School at Cornell University announces Assistant professors Srinagesh Gavirneni and Sandra E. Spataro have been awarded Clifford H. Whitcomb Faculty Fellowships for a one-year term that began on November 1, 2007. The fellowship was established by Clifford Whitcomb ('43, MBA '48), an active alumnus and longtime supporter of the Johnson School and Cornell University. The income from the endowment of the Fellowships is used to support the work of the recipients.
Srinagesh Gavirneni is an assistant professor of operations management whose research interests are supply chain management, inventory control, production scheduling, simulation, and optimization. His papers have appeared in Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Interfaces. He teaches the managing operations core course and co-teaches the semester in strategic operations immersion. Previously, he was an assistant professor in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, the chief algorithm design engineer at SmartOps, a software architect at Maxager Technology, and a research scientist with Schlumberger. He completed his PhD at Carnegie Mellon University.
Sandra Spataro is an assistant professor of management and organizations. Her most current research focuses on the formation of informal status hierarchies in organizations, and status differences among coworkers that are associated with demographic diversity. Her publications have appeared in Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Research in Managing Groups and Teams. She teaches the managing and leading in organizations core course. Previously, she was an assistant professor at the Yale School of Management. She received her doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her undergraduate and master's degrees from Stanford University.
