Community Impact Charity Auction to be Held on March 26

Bid on dinner at the Dean's house, theater tickets and more to raise money for two local charities

March 16, 2009 | Ithaca, NY | The Community Impact Charity Auction will be held from 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 26th in Sage Hall's Dyson Atrium. The event, which raised over $11,500 last year, is a Johnson School tradition and includes both a silent and live auction.

As explained by Misty Sorensen (MBA '09), organizer of last year's auction, "Student and faculty donations are quite creative, ranging from yoga lessons to a dinner at the Dean's house. This makes the event particularly entertaining, while also bringing the Johnson community together for a common purpose. This event perfectly pairs a good time with a great cause."

Each year one of the most popular items is a dinner and vintage wine tasting for eight students at Dean Joe Thomas's house. The multi-course dinner is prepared by the Dean and his wife, and offers a wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of friends.

Gregg DiNardo (MBA '09), the winner of last year's popular "Beer and Burgers with Professor Kathleen O'Connor" comments, "It was a great event for a great cause! My group and I decided we would have some fun and raise some real money for Community Impact and local charities. We were bidding against a second year group, and we didn't want to back down. I am sure students will continue to support Community Impact this year as well."

This year, the Johnson School community voted to donate the funds raised through the auction to Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance, as well as to students who are pursuing non-profit summer internships. Popular items donated by members of the Johnson School community and local businesses include homemade dinners, wine tastings, guitar lessons, and theater tickets – and many more! Please plan to attend, and contact Kelly Quinn with questions or if you would like to donate bid items.
