Johnson School Team Advances to Finals of JPMorgan's Good Venture Competition
November 21, 2006 | Ithaca, NY - The Johnson School at Cornell University it pleased to announce that a team of MBA students has advanced to the finals of the JPMorgan Good Venture Competition. Good Venture is a socially responsible competition for United States undergraduate and graduate students launched in the fall 2006 semester. The Johnson School team is one of six finalists chosen from among 65 other teams representing 41 schools. Each competing team submitted a business case/funding proposal for an existing philanthropic non-profit organization and is competing for $25,000 in funding for their organization.
The Johnson School team is made up of students Puneet Bhatia, Tram Ho, Robert Petrina, and Benjamin Weissbourd. The team nominated Casa Myrna Vazquez, a Boston-based organization dedicated to addressing and ending domestic violence in the lives of women and children through advocacy, prevention and intervention. Casa Myrna has become New England's foremost provider of shelters and comprehensive services to abused women and their children. The organization administers a 24/7 toll-free, statewide domestic violence hotline (SafeLink), and residential programs providing both emergency and long-term shelters for women and children. Additionally, Casa Myrna provides legal advocacy services, mental health counseling, economic development workshops and counseling, children's services, and educational outreach to the community.
JPMorgan will fly finalists to New York, where they will spend time with members of the investment banking team on November 30 and December 1. Finalists will give team presentations to a panel of JPMorgan senior executives who will announce the winner at an awards ceremony following the presentations. JPMorgan will contribute $25,000 directly to the winning team's philanthropic organization. More information can be found at www.goodventure.org.
