Johnson School Welcomes Diverse Prospective Students to Campus
Prospective MBA Recruitment Weekend Organized by Office of Diversity and Inclusion
October 29, 2007 | Ithaca, NY - On November 1 through November 3, 2007, the Johnson School will welcome prospective students to the seventh annual Johnson Means Business. This weekend event welcomes prospective MBA students from diverse backgrounds and interests to introduce them to Johnson School faculty and students, as well as the MBA curriculum and community.
Interested prospective students submitted an online application and 40 were chosen to participate in the weekend. Their travel expenses are reimbursed thanks to generous corporate donations, and they are matched with current Johnson School MBA students for housing. The event includes a welcome banquet with Dean Joseph Thomas, and the opportunity to attend class, meet and network with current students and faculty, as well as attend events sponsored by Accenture, Credit Suisse, Deloitte Consulting, Johnson & Johnson, and Lehman Brothers.
"Cornell's Johnson School is a training ground for tomorrow's global business leaders who can simplify complex, fast-changing situations, mobilize others to action, and get results," said Dean Thomas. "As the world becomes increasingly diverse, the Johnson School community must reflect the changing demographics of the global marketplace in order to develop effective leaders for that world. During Johnson Means Business, we are reaching out to diverse students to encourage them to come to the Johnson School for their MBA studies. I look forward to personally welcoming them to Ithaca and Cornell."
Deniqua Crichlow, director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion adds, "Johnson Means Business prepares prospective students for the experience of attending a top MBA program. The Johnson School's Office of Diversity and Inclusion works to increase the number of women, under-represented minorities, and other students of diverse backgrounds who are prepared to take their place among the great business leaders who have helped shape society and build community. This event is a first step for many of those future leaders."
Michelle Wonsley attended Johnson Means Business in 2004 and will graduate with a joint MBA and MILR degree in January 2008. Also one of the Johnson School's elite Park Leadership Fellows, she comments, "Johnson Means Business goes beyond fancy catalogs, confusing rankings and glitzy websites to enable prospective students to experience what Johnson stands for: teamwork, a collegial environment and intellectual rigor. My Johnson Means Business experience clarified for me what Cornell had to offer and how the school could meet my needs."
