Nanotechnology and Entrepreneurship Symposium - Thursday, October 7

September 22, 2004, Ithaca, New York The Johnson Graduate School of Management's Nanotechnology Club proudly presents the "Nanotechnology and Entrepreneurship Symposium" on Thursday, October 7th, at Sage Hall on the Cornell University campus. The symposium will explore connections between science, venture capital, and entrepreneurship, in a rapidly emerging nanotech industry. The event will include addresses by entrepreneurial leaders in the industry and a panel discussion with venture capitalists.

Symposium speakers include:

Jeff Hawkins, Inventor of the Palm Pilot, Founder of Palm and Handsprings
Harold Craighead, Leading nanotechnology researcher at Cornell, Founder of Nanofluidics, Inc.
Kevin McGovern, Co-Founder of SoBe Beverages, KX Industries, and 20 other enterprises worldwide
Josh Wolfe, Founder of Lux Capital and Editor of Forbes/Wolfe Nanotech Report
Chris Beaufait, Manager of Business Development for GE
Ramesh Akella, Founder of Phoenix Capital Partners
Mark Brandt, Founder and Managing Director of The Maple Fund
David Alhers, Founder of the Cayuga Venture Fund

Symposium schedule:

8:45-9:20 am Introduction by Harold Craighead, the leading nanotechnology researcher at Cornell will present an overview of nanotechnology.
9:20-10:25 am Nanotech Venture Capital Panel, Venture capitalists Mark Brandt, Dave Alhers and Ramesh Akella will give an investor's perspective on nanotechnology.
10:35-11:20 am Kevin McGovern will talk about KX Industries, one of his newest nanotech investments.
12:00-12:45 pm Jeff Hawkins, Duffield Hall
The inventor of the Palm Pilot will talk about his new Neuroscience Institute. After Mr. Hawkins, New York Representative Sherwood Boehlert will be acknowledged for his support of nanotech initiatives in New York State.
1:00-1:45 pmLunch & Showcase
1:50-2:15 pm Josh Wolfe, the founder of Lux Capital and editor of Forbes/Wolfe Nanotech Report, will speak about the future of nanotechnology.
2:15-3:15 pm Reception
