The Johnson School Ranks #9 in Beyond Grey Pinstripes Survey

Cornell MBA Program is Top School on Issues of Social and Environmental Stewardship

October 19, 2005, Ithaca, New York The Johnson School at Cornell University is pleased to announce that the World Resources Institute and Aspen Institute's Beyond Grey Pinstripes ranking has been released and the Johnson School has placed #9 in the world. This ranking is the only global ranking that evaluates MBA programs for their efforts to prepare their students for the reality of tomorrow's markets, equipping them with an understanding of the social, environmental, and economic perspectives required for business success in a competitive global economy.

"The Johnson School is very proud to be ranked among the top schools on this survey," said Robert Swieringa, the Anne and Elmer Lindseth Dean of the Johnson School. "By establishing the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise, we have shown everyone how serious we are about these issues and our desire for our students to make a real impact in this area as they join the marketplace."

In the rankings the Johnson School distinguished itself not only by offering a large number of courses that addressed social and environmental issues in business, but also by the relatively large proportion of students who took those classes.

Said Stuart Hart, the Samuel C. Johnson Professor of Sustainable Global Enterprise, "We are pleased to have done so well in these rankings and to have been highlighted for the number of our courses and our enrollment numbers. We will continue to educate the business leaders of tomorrow who understand the importance of sustainability in the world."

The Beyond Grey Pinstripes report identified the Top 30 MBA programs by inviting nearly 600 MBA programs to report on their coursework and research. As a result, 1,842 courses, 1,713 extracurricular activities and programs, and 828 journal articles from leading peer-reviewed business publications were analyzed. A full description of the report, its methodology and individual MBA program ratings is available online at www.beyondgreypinstripes.org.
