Cornell Professor to Moderate Panel at Dr. Dobbs Island on Friday, July 13

Ithaca, NY - Professor Robert Bloomfield of Cornell University's Johnson School will moderate a panel discussion on the major stock exchanges in Second Life, AVIX and WSE. The panel discussion is a Metaversed Geek Meet co-sponsored by Dr. Dobbs Journal, Information Week, and Cornell University. It will be held in Second Life on Dr. Dobbs Island at noon SLT (3:00 p.m. EST) on Friday, July 13, 2007. Transcripts will be available after the panel through Metaversed at http://metaversed.com.

Panelists will describe the current state of the markets and what they hope to see in the future, particularly with regards to regulatory and non-regulatory ways to strengthen investor confidence. The panel has been arranged with the help of Nick Wilson's Metaversed, a website devoted to business and technology in the growing "metaverse" of virtual worlds, and is being hosted on the island managed by Dr. Dobbs Journal.

Robert Bloomfield, known in Second Life as "Beyers Sellers," is a Professor of Accounting at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management, where serves as Director of Doctoral Studies and Director of the Business Simulation Laboratory. Professor Bloomfield has published dozens of peer-reviewed papers on the regulation of financial markets, and is currently Director of the Financial Accounting Standards Research Initiative, which conducts research to help the Financial Accounting Standards Board in their deliberations on accounting standards in US capital markets. He is currently a guest author on the virtual world website Terra Nova, and is pursuing the use of virtual worlds for business research and education through his Worlds for Study project.
