Jan Suwinski Appointed to Board of ACI Worldwide, Inc.
September 21, 2007 | Ithaca, NY Professor Jan Suwinski, a senior lecturer of operations management at the Johnson School at Cornell University, has been appointed to the board of directors for ACI Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACIW). ACI Worldwide provides solutions for electronic payments, managing risk, automating back office systems and application infrastructure services. Suwinski will serve as a member of the board's compensation committee.
"We are extremely pleased to have Jan join our board of directors," said Philip G. Heasley, chief executive officer. "Jan's depth of knowledge in the software product sector will equally serve to enhance our understanding of the business opportunities facing ACI as we continue to implement our global distribution and multi product strategy."
Suwinski, who teaches in the semester in strategic operations immersion, as well as courses in strategy and strategic alliances, joined the Johnson School faculty in 1997 after almost 32 years with Corning Inc., where he held a variety of management positions in several technology-based businesses. From 1990 to 1996, he was executive vice president of the Opto-Electronics Group, with responsibility for all of Corning's fiber optic-based businesses. The group had 13 plants in eight countries, and his Telecommunications Products Division won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1995. Suwinski was presented the Russell Distinguished Teaching Award in June 2006.
Suwinski also serves on the boards of Tellabs, Inc., Thor Industries, Inc., Ohio Casualty Group, IVANS, Inc. and the Sentry Group. He previously served on the boards of Cray Research, Armco, Inc., and the Telecommunications Industries Association (TIA), where he was chairman of its fiber optics division from 1987-1996.
Suwinski has a BME ('64) and MBA ('65) from Cornell University. He completed the Executive Development Program at Columbia University in 1983. He serves on the advisory councils of the Johnson School and the College of Engineering at Cornell.
