Abby Cohen became a managing director (11/30/96) after serving since 1990 as vice president and co-chair of the Investment Policy Committee at Goldman, Sachs & Company in New York City. Mrs. Cohen focuses on investment strategy for the U.S. stock market and is one of the firm's two main market strategy commentators. She also serves on Goldman's stock selection committee. She is responsible for United States investment strategy and is the firm's principal commentator on the U.S. stock market. Before Goldman she was managing director and chief U.S. strategist for Barclays de Zoete Wedd, Inc. She was formerly the chief strategist (1988-90) and vice president in charge of investment strategy (1983-88) at Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. Earlier, she was economist and quantitative research director for T. Rowe Price Associates.

Mrs. Cohen began her career as an economist (1973-77) at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. Mrs. Cohen, a chartered financial analyst since 1980, is a member of the Board of Governors of the Association for Investment Management and Research (1993-), the National Economists Club, the New York Society of Security Analysts, and the International Society of Financial Analysts. Trustee and chair of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts board (1995-), she is a member of the National Association of Business Economists. In 1989 she was named to the YWCA Academy of Women Achievers. Mrs. Cohen has made numerous TV appearances, including Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser and The McNeil Lehrer Newshour; she is frequently quoted in the financial press, including The Wall Street Journal, Business Week and Fortune.
